The Lethic Lagoon
Six Thrones of Bone Session 9
Summary
Guenter finds the next Throne of Bone at the Lethic Lagoon. There’s a large number of foes between him and his goal. In addition to a Necrocultist, he has to fight his way through eight skeletons and nine unquiet dead. After these foes, he must choose: will he purify the land or heal the damnation blighting his soul?
Lessons Learned
I don’t think I understood the game verbiage at first. At first, I read the lagoon itself as the foe. But during play, the wording became clear: Foe meant the individual beasts.
I think the ruleset’s minimalism is a plus, but clarity shouldn’t be sacrificed. Also: it’s becoming very clear the cards in the map will have to be recycled to get all six thrones.
The special skill for the Necrocultist totally got me. I had to shuffle all 10 cards had stacked against them at one point back into the story deck.
Session Notes
The lagoon is dank and murky. The air is hot and foul. It feels as though inhaling is a struggle against drowning. Various Unquiet Dead and Skeletons are roaming about. Guenter will have his work cut out for him.
After killing 12 foes, Guenter has to retreat and regroup. He returns to complete his grisly task.
While working his way through the various low level rabble, Guenter finds himself face to face with a Necrocultist. It’s harder to battle than he first anticipates, but he is able to defeat the cultist.
CHOICE: Purify the land -- Remove 1 Damnation when adding a Heart card to the map. Guenter manages to clear out the dead corrupting the lagoon. An Angel Appears.
ANGEL: “You appear weary, paladin. If you drink these waters, the Waters of Xavatrul, you will find yourself refreshed beyond measure.”
Guenter peers into the depths. The angel may be truthful, but the waters are slick with corruption.
GUENTER: “Better the waters flow clear and my soul remain tired than me refreshed and the land wasted.”
The angel nods.
ANGEL: “So be it.”
And Guenter steps down to the lagoon’s edge and purifies both the water and the land.
The Throne of Bone dissolves into a fine, ashy powder and is carried off by the breeze.
